THE SECRET:  This is a really simple effect that can be done with household objects! You’ll need a hammer and a nail. This trick is all about perception. (Pic 1)


You need to bend the nail slightly ahead of time. There are a few ways to accomplish that, just be careful or get help from an adult if needed if using tools. ! I bent the nail by laying it on a sidewalk and hammering the middle. (Pic 2).

To prepare for your performance, rotate the nail so that from your audience’s perspective, they cannot see the curve. This is tricky to get just right, so practice in a mirror to see what they will see. (Pic 3)

Now as you are pretending to bend the nail, all you need to do is rotate the nail towards the audience, slowly. If you go too fast, they will notice what your hand is doing. Be subtle with the movement. (Pic 4)

Really all it takes is a slow rolling movement of your thumb and index finger to rotate the nail. (Pic 5) For a variation on this trick, you can start with the nail in its ‘straightened’ position… (Pic 6)

…then take the nail in both hands, covering it completely. Finally bend your hands down, which will appear to bend the nail easily! (Pic 7)

This on face value might seems like a super simple trick, too simple to work, BUT it does work if you perform it with conviction. It can get a great reaction IF you perform it well.
